Homemade Peanut Butter Dog Treats

Making your dog some delicious homemade peanut butter dog treats is a great way to show him some love.

Natural peanut butter is a super-food in it's own right and each spoonful packs a powerful nutritional punch.

This nut butter is nutrient-dense because it's jam-packed full of healthy ingredients. It's a fantastic source of healthy fats, protein, fiber, vitamins and minerals.

Another wonderful quality of peanut butter is how versatile it is when used in homemade dog treat recipes. You can combine it with a whole host of other ingredients to create an almost limitless variety of goodies that are sweet, savory, soft, crunchy, frozen.... the list just goes on and on.

I only use natural, organic ingredients in my recipes and the peanut butter I use contains nothing but peanuts.

Of course, there are tons of different brands of peanut butter on the grocery store shelves but did you know that it's essential to check the ingredients label on any peanut butter you use for your dogs treats because some brands contain an artificial sugar substitute called Xylitol which is life-threateningly toxic for dogs.

Xylitol and Dogs

Xylitol is an artificial sweetener that is most often found in hard candies, chewing gum, certain foods for people with diabetes, some sugar-free foods and also in oral/dental care products.

However, Xylitol is also found in certain brands of peanut butter (and almond butter) but please, NEVER GIVE YOUR DOG ANYTHING TO EAT OR DRINK WHICH CONTAINS XYLITOL. Just a small amount could kill him.

Check the label of any nut butters that you plan to use in your dog treat recipes so that you can be certain you're not putting your dog at risk.

** Some manufacturers are beginning to list Xylitol as 'Birch Sugar' on  ingredients lists, so be aware and keep your eyes open.

Dog treat recipes with peanut butter as an ingredient are pretty much guaranteed to be a hit with any dog and I'm confident the recipes on this page will be favorites in your house in no time at all.

Every single one of them has been taste-tested by my dog Ivan and meets with his approval (which means they're wiggle-worthy!)

My German Shepherd, Dax, is the only dog I've ever know who isn't a fan of this delicious, nutritious nut butter but Ivan is totally happy with having sole responsibility for this task.
